MELIMELI 10 YEARS
This year we celebrate 10 years of MELIMELI - a decade of design, vision and personalized homes.
As part of the anniversary, we now present a new interpretation of our iconic polka dot and striped fabrics - this time in a warm, soft nougat brown shade.
It's a tribute to the playful and timeless design language that has always been part of our DNA - but also a step into the future.
By managing what once laid the foundation for MELIMELI, we have created something new that reflects both the history behind us and what we see ahead.
The result is a color that feels calm, embracing and self-evident - a new classic for the next chapter.
What prompted you to start MELIMELI?
I felt there was something missing in the market - furniture with character, but still accessible. I wanted to create something playful but timeless, with really nice materials and craftsmanship in focus. It really started with a frustration: why do you have to choose between design and quality - or between price and personality? I decided to try to create what I was looking for myself.
What have been the biggest milestones in these 10 years?
Launching our first sofa, Luca, was an incredible feeling - it set the tone for the whole brand. Another milestone was when we opened our store in Stockholm. It somehow became real then - that people came in, tried it on, asked questions and were inspired. And every time we've launched a new fabric or a new collection, it's been a kind of new beginning. But honestly, the biggest thing is probably seeing our furniture in people's homes - that it's become part of everyday life, memories and lives.
What is behind the look of your anniversary collection - and what does it say about MELIMELI's journey?
For me, this collection is about capturing everything that has defined MELIMELI in our first ten years - but also articulating what we want to stand for going forward. It's not just a celebration, but a reflection. What was it that made us feel different from the start? What do we want to hold on to? And what do we want to develop?
I wanted to go back to the playful, the graphic, the unexpected. The dots and stripes were already there in our first sketches - and it felt natural to give them new life in a new, deeper color scale. It's about managing our roots but with a new expression. A kind of creative balance sheet - but with a view to the future.
What happens to a room when the right sofa moves in?
I think we sometimes underestimate how much a single piece of furniture can affect a whole feeling. A sofa is often the largest piece of furniture in the room - but also the most emotional. It's where you land after a long day. Where you gather. Where you live.
When I design a sofa, I don't just think about how it should look - I think about how it should feel. What should it say about the person who lives there? Should it take up space, or blend in?
I see each sofa as a kind of soul of the room - something that gives direction to the whole interior. And that's exactly the feeling we want to capture with our collections: that design doesn't have to be impersonal. On the contrary - it should be the most personal thing there is.
How would you describe MELIMELI's design DNA?
For me, it's very much about feeling - it should be beautiful, but it shouldn't feel stiff. Our design is soft but clear. It dares to take up space, without shouting. We work with shapes that feel organic, materials that age beautifully, and patterns that stand out but still last over time. There is always a playfulness at the core, but also a respect for classic craftsmanship. I would say that we are somewhere between fashion, art and interior design.
Which product is your favorite?
Oh god, hardest question. I love everything we do. But, I still have to say Luca. It's a great sofa that has it all. It's stylish, comfortable, timeless, durable and really does its job.
But then of course, I love our stripes and dots, and it's incredibly fun to give them new love with this collection, they deserve it.
