The Craftsmanship

After the glass is gathered with a pipe from an 1100 degree hot glass furnace, it is shaped with a wooden ladle and newspaper. The vase is then mouth-blown into a specially made wooden mold. After this, the vase is punted to give it its characteristic wavy edge around the opening.

To prevent the vases from cracking, they are placed in a stress-relieving oven overnight. The next morning, they are at room temperature and are taken out for a final inspection before signing and packaging. In total, each vase passes through 5-6 hands before it is packed and ready.
